Artist Statement

Jennifer Marquez is an interdisciplinary artist that deals with the complexity of identity through her art. She uses different mediums to depict identity in a variety of ways, just as identities can be portrayed in an array of manners. Marquez explores this mosaic concept with her materials . The colors that Marquez uses in her artwork are often informative of deeper exploration of the visual manifestation of identity, while the form that her work may take is indicative of the form the identity takes. In many of her pieces, Marquez chooses an abstract approach as it provides ambiguity, all the while she adds details that add personal references from her own experiences.
